Intelligent Learning Systems that are Equitable For All

Scaling equitable K–12 supports (MTSS, UDL & PBIS) with open-source edtech, data-informed decision-making, and ethical learning analytics.

Our Vision

We noticed a critical lack of support for the individual students, educators, guardians, and student support vendors that sustain the many statewide initiatives across California.

Our Mission

Educate schools, educators, and student support services with resources, open-source developed tools, and foster partnerships that will improve student outcomes.

Our Purpose

We are a team of students and/or parents of students who, at one time, fell through the cracks ourselves. We sympathize with students who need support to succeed.

Strengthening K–12 Learning Systems

At Innovate for California, we strengthen K–12 learning systems by integrating MTSS (Multi-Tiered Systems of Support), UDL (Universal Design for Learning), and PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) into open source edtech solutions. Our tools enable students, guardians, educators, and districts to scale inclusive instruction, monitor outcomes with responsible learning analytics, and reduce the need for intensive interventions.

Advances in learning analytics and educational data mining are transforming how systems identify need, measure progress, and refine supports—when used ethically and transparently. Strong Tier 1 instruction designed with UDL reduces unnecessary escalations to Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions, making education more equitable and accessible for all learners.

The Problem We Are Solving

Addressing the widening career readiness gap and preparing learners for an AI-driven future.

"The widening career readiness gap, along with the growing demand for upskilling driven by technological advancements like AI, is creating an urgent need to rethink how we equip learners for future employment."

— Michael Hansen, CEO of Cengage Group

What We Offer

Comprehensive programs and services that create sustainable pathways for student success through before/during/after school programming, career exploration, community engagement, and STEAM initiatives.

Educators planning MTSS UDL PBIS implementation

Tiered Support Workflows (MTSS)

Connecting the automated tier tagging, progress monitoring, and escalation rules of existing edtech platforms to community led initiatives and support networks; allowing stakeholders to track student progress in real-time. Teacher-friendly evidence capture and intervention logs. Funder-ready, auditable reports for grant and district accountability.

Inclusive Instruction Tools (UDL)

Lesson templates and resources that support multimodal learning. Engagement indicators designed to reduce educator workload. Co-design with teachers to ensure classroom fit.

Behavior & Climate Solutions (PBIS)

PBIS-aligned behavior tracking and reinforcement dashboards. Interventions that focus on teaching and reinforcing positive behavior. School-level climate metrics to support equity, belonging, and the student achievement and student outcomes metrics that define the California School Dashboard.

Data Ethics & Privacy — Built In

We follow Univeresal Design in Learning (UDL), ethics-by-design and data minimization best practices in learning analytics and educational data mining. Our approach prioritizes consent, anonymization where appropriate, and auditable provenance for any metric shared with funders or employers.

Staff at Innovate For California have worked with organizations like the in collaboration with National Council for Community and Education at the forefront of responsible educational data use by applying business intelligence and predictive analytical principals to provide educational insight to a federally funded program called Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP).
